Two Brothers, a Couple 9s and a Law Book

The pain of watching our babies slaughtered is more than I can process. I simply don’t understand how we continue to allow this to happen. Ya’ll know me. I’m all love and light, the original Pollyanna idealist and I say the time for peace has passed. It’s time to take a stand and fight.

Someone asked me this morning what we should do; somebody else asked me to ~ just for today ~ find something good to say. This evening I want to speak to both of them.

The good news is that African America has right now at our disposal everything we need for autonomy. We have capitol; we have talent; we have an abundance of able bodies. In fact, we lack nothing save direction and unity.

Tonight, I ask each of you, NOI, COGIC, Pan African and mainstream to step up and take responsibility for your little corner of your community. This weekend make it your business to meet your neighbors; know who their children are and ensure that they know yours. Remember when we watched over one another? This weekend let’s make that sweet memory our new reality.

My brothers, we need you to take a stand. In twos and threes, please arm yourselves. Yes with guns, but also with cameras and copies of your local municipal code, and take to the streets of your hood. Make the streets safe for your women and children. It’s a simple step that requires no formal organization. We don’t need a 501 c 3, by-laws or a charter; we need only to take a stand.

All day every day we memorialize our heroes, Huey, Malcolm, Fred, Little Bobby et al. Starting today, let’s honor our fallen with emulation. Stop allowing the blue uniformed KKK to terrorize our communities. Stop allowing our sisters and babies to walk these mean streets unprotected. Become a constant presence; let those intent on genocide know that we are patrolling our own streets and we will take no more. Let them know that open season on Africans in America is over; that we are well able and more than willing to protect and serve our own.
