Picture the Sahara Desert in April in southern Morocco. You'd find a race of seven days, with six stages, 150-mile of running and self-suffiencey. That's what 887 competitors are doing in the Marathon de Sables. It's another year in which racers will forge and trot their way pounding their feet on the Sahara's sand. Runners will be carrying their own food, water and personal supplies, sleeping bags and their mandatory safety equipment for the week's tour. Perhaps touring across the desert is not an ideal trip, the hot temperatures can be a test of endurance rising up to 125 degrees along with running in such conditions with chances of sand storms. Daily runs can be over between 21 to 50 miles long throughout the course of the marathon. Runners will have to be in tip-top shape to handle the long haul and; the weather conditions cannot always be agreeable. What a challege. It's a world class event.
