The iconic theater is one of 40 participating New York City organizations. If it is awarded funding, the Apollo will utilize it to restore the ornate architectural artwork in the building’s main theater. There is only one thing that is keeping the historic landmark from winning the competition and that is YOU!
The contest, sponsored by American Express, along with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will run for a month and organizers of the event are urging the public to cast their votes for local historic projects that they would like to see receive grant funding. Those who want to rally round the renowned musical home that has hosted such greats as Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin and Count Basie, please cast your vote now! You are only allotted one vote per day until May 21.
