BLACK MAN WORE 'ELDERLY WHITE MAN' MASK TO ROB BANKS
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- Authorities say an African American bank robber is in custody after disguising himself as an elderly white man and holding up several banks across Northern California.
San Leandro Police Lt. Jeff Tudor says 34-year-old Deron Williams apparently robbed 11 banks while wearing a "sophisticated full-face mask giving him the appearance of an elderly white male."
Alameda County prosecutors have charged Williams with several counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft and weapons violations.
He was arrested Tuesday in Oakland after police found a stolen van he allegedly used in some of the heists.
Tudor says police were able to implicate Williams off of DNA evidence following a robbery at a Bank of the West branch in San Leandro in October.
Williams is being held at Santa Rita Jail on $1.3 million bail.
