"I'm Every Woman" is a hit song recorded by Chaka Khan in 1978. Written by successful songwriting team Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, the soul/disco song reached number twenty-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and hit number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. On the disco chart, the single peaked at number thirty.

Whitney Houston recorded the song for The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album. It was released as the soundtrack's second single in January 1993.

Houston's version of "I'm Every Woman" would become a bigger hit than the original, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top 40 for nineteen weeks. The song became number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart,
reached number five on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and cracked the top 40 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.

Houston's cover was also a bigger international hit than the original version as it peaked within the top 5 in the UK and several other countries, and the top 20 in France, Australia, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.

The song won Houston a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video, and received a Grammy Award nomination in 1994 for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

As a tribute to Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston proclaims Khan's name towards the end of the song.

I’M EVERY WOMAN
Written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson
Sung by Whitney Houston

Whatever you want
Whatever you need
Anything you want done baby
I do it naturally
'Cause I'm every woman (Every woman)
It's all in me
It's all in me
Yeah

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done baby
I do it naturally

I'm every woman
It's all in me
I can read your thoughts right now
Every woman, whoever made ya say...
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa (oh) whoa (oh) whoa

I can cast a spell
See, but you can't tell
Mix a special groove
Put fire inside of you
Anytime you feel danger or fear
Then instantly
I will appear
Yeah oh

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done baby
I do it naturally
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa

I can set your knees
like playing unto the seas
I can make a rhyme of confusion in your mind
And when it comes down to some little flash of love
I got it, I got it
I got it, got it, baby baby

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done baby
I do it naturally

I'm every woman
It's all in me
I can read your thoughts right now
Every woman, whoever made ya say...
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa

I ain't braggin'
'Cause I'm the one
Just ask me
Oh, it shall be done
And don't bother
to compare
I've got it

Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa
Ahhhhh

I'm every woman
I'm every woman
I'm every woman
I'm every woman

I'm every woman
I'm every woman
I'm every woman
I'm every woman

I'm every woman (Chaka)
I'm every woman (Chaka)
I'm every woman (Ha ha ha)
I'm every woman (Come on girl)

Thanks Rich, I had no idea this song was written by Ashford & Simpson. I actually thought Chaka herself wrote the song (smile)

I liked this song because it encourages women and young girls to have high self esteem and to fully love themselves. If this song doesn't make you sing along, nothing will!!!

There's a reason why Ashford &* Simpson are in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Their list of hits recorded by others is probably as long as your arm!!!

They are SOLID...AS A ROCK!!!
