DEAR GARDENERS:

July 2012

Dear Gardeners:

This time of year I’m often loaded with cucumbers from my lovely friend’s garden, but I am not pickling them, or writing to you about pickles this year! So, this leaves me finding some other things to make and do with cucumbers. Since the full season of cucumbers is here I’m finding the abundance is taking over my refrigerator. My son only eats them in salads! What a big help he is huh? I did discover cucumbers can be considered a fruit!

Since I’m not certain of what to do, I feel compelled to pass a few along to my neighbors and hope they won’t regret seeing me coming with a nice bunch in hand. I admit they are much too nice to let them just rot away. I may have to take some to work two by two and smooch them off on some of my co-workers. They’ve been visiting the Farmer’s Market and buying some, so these are free I think I’ll have the upper hand.

If all those things fail, I’ll be munching and gnawing on the fruit everyday. I’m trying to remain "cucumber positive." Ha! Next, my very kind friend will be delivering tomatoes and okra and in knowing his heart is generous; I will be blessed with good and plenty to share of those garden gifts too! He has a knack of growing vegetables, and well I’m stunningly overwhelmed and glad his heart is kind. I’ll never be tired or hungry with friends like him whom love sharing.

GOT CUCUMBERS?
Here is 5 quick things you can do with them:

1. SOOTHE YOUR TIRED EYES:

Take your tired eyes to a cool relief by cutting up fresh slices of cucumber and piling them over your eyelids during your relaxing moments. This may help reduce dark circles and puffiness around your eyes.

2. HAVE A COOL CUCUMBER DRINK OF WATER:

You’ve heard of adding lemon to your drinking glass of water, now you can also reduce bloating by adding slices of cucumbers. Since cucumbers are natural diuretic you’ll get double the benefit. Drink up! Do add sugar… Nawh! Do not add sugar!

3. YOU’LL LOVE CUCUMBER SANDWICHES:

First thing you’ll need is cucumbers! Make them fancy and bite size. Slice your bread in little squares, or rectangles even triangles add cheese, a bit of mayo or your favorite sandwich spreads and serve with a summer drink or coffee. That’s sounds delicious….

4. CUCUMBER DIP:

Great recipes are all over the web for cucumber dips, they are easy to make and usually requires no cooking skills. If you’re like me, I never want to cook all the time! Great for summertime snacking.

5. GIVE YOURSELF A FACIAL:

Sooth your face with cool cucumber slices. Puree half a cucumber in your blender and apply it to the face. Let stand on face approximately 15 minutes and rinse with cool water. ZING! You’re skin will find it zesty Q!

Well, when you think of it perhaps I might keep those cucumbers and try all five of these wonders! There’s plenty for me to have a cucumber's crave!

I don’t want to bore you so it’s time to end this month’s letter Dear Gardeners….Enjoy your 4th. By the way, if you accidentally get burned slice a cucumber and soothe the burn.
I guess? Du..ugh…. LOL!

So, tell me …

How does your garden grow?

I’d surely love to know..

Mine grows with lots of

Love,

MIISRAEL
