The XIX International AIDS Conference ended on July 27, 2012 in Washington, D.C. with potential hope with medical cures. Public health leaders and scientists are constantly developing experimental drugs will find ways to finally cure the disease. Chief of the Joint United Nation Program on HIV/AIDS, or UNAIDS stated the "A cure for AIDS could be found within 10 years." This all stems from the successful cure of one patient and other substantial evidence of breakthroughs. The theme for the conference focused on one man's cure being the launch of a new effort in the fight against aids. This week's conference studies showed the the cure is advancing as the patient with HIV had no sign of resurgence in their infection when taken off the the antiretrovial drugs.
