Aftermaths of Aurora, Colorado theater shootings caused many gun dealers in Colorado a spike in gun sales registrations and background checks. Dealers in Colorado reported an increase of 40% more in background checks. Additionally, purchase of gun purchases surged over many U.S. gun dealers. President Obama also keyed in the media regarding guns laws that would require a greater restriction to selling to criminals. Gun dealers submitted at least 2,887 requests for background checks in a three day period. Firearms sales in Florida also showed a record growth requesting with 2,386 background checks on Friday, July 27, 2012. Most gun registratars may have been influenced by fear and many people thinking of protection of households and residents. However, there may be elevated need for the movie theaters to find ways to beef up security measures in order to keep movie goers safer.
