Financial and commodity resource experts are observing warning signals that the world could be headed for another food crisis. Low food supplies are predicted by the world's prevailing conditions of weather including droughts, and rains and global changes. Experts pinpoint that climate changes in 2012 have produced poor harvest with corn, wheat and rice crops. In other parts of the world monsoon rains were 15.2 percent below average in mid-August and Asian rice prices are forecasted be costly. Despite the warning for rice, the UN Food and Agricultural Organization expects rice output to slightly surpass "excellent results" recorded last year. The production of unmilled rice is about 725 million tons from last year's figure of 732 million tons.

Concerns over the U.S. harvest has prompted talks with UN officials to consider and establish consensus to avoid future events of riots which sparked attention in 2007-08 food prices. The immediate area for food shortages is chronic in Sahel region of Africa where number of malnourished children is estimated to be accountable as high as 1.5 million children. Cholera and locusts disparity has been warned by UNICEF. World Vison Australia said that people need food in areas in Niger, Mali, Chad, Mauritania and Senegal. In addition, the spread of poverty and hunger as well as food shortages in food banks are gravely increasing among America's children and American families are suddenly finding less food in their homes at an alarming rate.

Could be signs of a great famine?

We can expect to see cost increases of corn and rice at the grocery store by the end of 2012 and into 2013. Corn syrup is in thousands of items like candy, soda and ketchup. The next time you shop for groceries, take a look at the ingredient list. If you see corn syrup as a main ingredient, expect prices to go up.

Thanks Butterfly... I can already feel the bite on some of the increases already. Groceries overall are very expensive. I admit though, some of us could stand to eat a little less, that's due to obesity. I don't like to hear about children being hungry. I took in the great information you posted too!
