Hi Doc, I have a question concerning Ensure protein drinks.

I drink ensure on those occasions when I don't have time to sit down and eat a balanced meal due to my short lunch breaks. I am in overall good health (except for the 1 or 2 cold every winter), but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing myself more harm than good by consuming these drinks. Is drinking too much Ensure or other protein drinks bad for you?

As is often the case, balance would seem to be the key. Now I am by no means a good example of eating health, but I'm trying to change that. The best thing we can do is prepare our own food. I have started taking a high quality multivitamin/mineral supplement and I feel much much better. I am also eating more fish (for the Omega-3s for one, but it also is healthy for other reasons). I also started taking Coenzyme-Q10, something which is produced by the body but which also decreases with age. But I also found that the "statins", one of which I've been prescribed for cholesterol reduction, inhibit the production of Co-Q10. Magnesium deficiency is also very common among Americans.
