BIA members... what are your thoughts on the direction this site is going? Do we need the drama queens/king? What is our purpose as responsible adults? I for one, am bored with the pettiness of character assasination blogs. Your thoughts please, BIA members.

I agree Earl, and the best way is to do what you do and keep dialoging on issues of substance. We cannot change others except by the diplomacy of our own words.

I should have used the word influence rather than change, as it is not my business to change anyone. Just to help the cause of respectful dialog. Which requires me to be respectful first and foremost.

If you are dialoguing truthful and honest then you don’t have to worry about being disrespectful, am I right. But, almost all of us are dishonest and not up-right at all. And eventually this dishonesty leads to character assignation and rightfully so by the party that is honest in the dialogue. Do you all agree?

There's nothing two-faced about it David. You've faulted me about not taking sides all along. I have many friends here who say such and such to each other. I stay quiet on Earl and Irma, so what? Between you and Jake, Jake and Irma, you and Robert, Robert and Irma... So what!

I first heard it in the Superman TV series of the 1950s, starring George Reeves. It was part of the opening of every episode. First the narrator starts with this intro:

"Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound."

Then you see a crowd of people pointing at the sky, and four different voices deliver these lines:

"Look, up in the sky!"
"It's a bird."
"It's a plane".
"It's Superman!"

[Then the narrator voice-over continues:]

"Yes, it's Superman! Strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel with his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way."

That's from memory. I may have some details wrong. I used to recite a version that stayed with the original right up to the last three words, then substituted "corn on the cob" instead of "the American way."

I find sometimes we are truly together on one thing and it's voicing our opinion. Some negative, some positive. I look for the more positive ones among each of you and this is where I shatter negatives. Yet, not wanting to be negative I keep aiming at doing much more positive on the site as possible.
