The CIA needed logistical
help to carry out the
assassination and coup.
So they did what they always
do.
They found corrupt power
players who wanted more
power, cut a deal with them
and helped them get what
they wanted
It was a CIA coup
In the Kennedy assassinating, the CIA did what the CIA does so well (or used to at least.)
They found corrupt elements in the country who had the ability and motivation to remove the person the CIA wanted eliminated.
In this case, my guess is the CIA provided the shooters from their friends in organized crime. Maybe they used Cubans. Maybe they used Corsicans. It doesn't really matter. Guys that can take that shot like that and make it are not that hard to find.
The CIA knew they had a friend in Johnson who would deliver them what they wanted in return for his seat in the Presidential Palace (or in this case), the White House.
The CIA got to survive intact and they and their friends in the Pentagon got their war.

In 1956, he married the American writer Joy Davidman, 17 years his junior, who died four years later of cancer at the age of 45. Lewis died three years after his wife, as the result of renal failure.
