Children across the country went back to school today, just three days after a man entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. and killed 26 people — 20 of them children.

Tim Sanford, a licensed professional counselor and trauma specialist at Focus on the Family, said children who witness or see media coverage of traumatic events are dealing with anxiety and myriad “what if” types of questions that may add to their anxiousness.
