Medgar Evers College, named for the martyred civil rights leader Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), was established in 1970 by the Board of Higher Education of The City of New York as a result of the advoca­cy of community residents in Central Brooklyn, and educational and civic leaders throughout the City of New York.

Medgar Evers College recruits students who are in pursuit of self-actualization, a personal value system, and an academically sound and culturally enriched education. The Office of Admissions welcomes applications from high school graduates, transfer students, international students, professionals, and returning adults.
