DAY 18
Cannes, France

A proud Native born American Blackfoot and actress Misty Upham is among one of the first Natives to walk on the red carpet. That's because Misty attended the recent Cannes Film Festival where she stars in one of the 20 films selected to become a winner for the prize. Upham stars in the film Jimmy P. Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian which was recorded on her own reservation and directed by Amaud Desplechin. The film based on a true story when a native Indian checks into a hospital in 1948 specializes in treating mentally ill war patients. While there the patient experiences dizziness, temporary blindness and hearing loss. The film focuses on the relationship of the Native American World War II Veteran and his relationship with his doctor. Upham plays the mother of Jimmy P's daughter. Upham noted that the film gives a fresh look at how Native Americans may view the perception of how much oppression many Natives have experienced. Upham is best known by her role in the 2008 film titled "Frozen River". Presently, Upham has expressed her hard work and determination depended much on making life better only by means of her leaving the reservation and return to acknowledge that she could return with life becoming full circle to fulfill her dream. Upham took her walk with her co-stars on the red carpet at Cannes. With a dream on her side her prize to win still remains, but for now she has taken the walk.
