The Founding of Black America pt. 2
The Black Founding Fathers moved in the same direction as did the nation. The preamble to the constitution spoke to freedom for all men and the BFF (Black Founding Fathers) embraced the famous words.
July 4, 1776---all men are...intitled to liberty---slave owner, Thomas Jefferson, scattered four seeds...
1. All men are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights...
2. Creat civil communities and civil authority who gets power from the people...
3. Members of the community are colleagues and not subjects ...
4. If the government does not uphold this promise, the citizens can abolish the
government.
Based on thosse four precepts, white colonist were embraced and assured freedom for the Blacks. Thomas Paine and James Otis denounced English tyrany. Paine even compared slavery to murder, robbery, lewdness, and barbarity in its immorality. Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams, wrote that they had no right to take from others that they take for themselves.
It took 188 years, but in 1766, Blacks in Boston filed a test case against slavery.
From there it spread to Connecticut and then to other colonies.Blacks forced an open break with England and America.
