JUL 30, 2013 (Healthcare Traveler Newsletter Staff) Nine schools of nursing have been named National League for Nursing (NLN) Centers of Excellence (COE), the NLN recently announced. The top schools and healthcare organizations are: Ball State University, Johns Hopkins University, Northeastern University, Saint Xavier, University of Kansas, Duke University, Kent State University, Villanova University, Widener University, and Norton Healthcare.

Two schools, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Saint Xavier in Chicago, received continuing designations for "Creating Environments that Enhance Student Learning and Professional Development" - Saint Xavier for the third time, Johns Hopkins for the second time. The selection is by competitive application reviewed by a panel of leaders in nursing education.

There are now a total of 29 COEs, 25 schools of nursing that represent the spectrum of higher education, and four healthcare organizations. The COEs will be formally recognized at the National League for Nursing Annual Education Summit in Washington, D.C. Sept. 18-21.
