Celebrate Harlem Day During Harlem Week 2013 { NY Metropolitan Resident Alert }

“HARLEM DAY” – the busiest day of the “HARLEM WEEK” celebration – will offer a variety of free, family-friendly events, performances, demonstrations, cultural exhibitions, games and more on Sunday, August 18th on West 135th Street from 5th Avenue to St. Nicholas Avenue in Manhattan. Activities start at 10:00 a.m. and will run through 7:00 p.m. HARLEM DAY annually attracts 90,000 attendees.

HARLEM DAY activities will include:


· The NY City Children’s Festival: a variety of activities including performances showcasing young tap dancers, dance troupes, step shows, hip-hop dancers, theater, poetry and vocalists, double dutch competitions, face painting, health services, sporting events, games, back-to-school fashions and more;


· The Upper Manhattan Urban Auto Show featuring approximately one hundred of the most unique, collectible, vintage and new vehicles, motorcycles and antique buses from across the northeast region;


· Four stages of exciting live entertainment – gospel, rhythm & blues, Latin, reggae, salsa, hip-hop, Calypso, rock, and dance performances;


· New York Health Village offering exhibits from hospitals, health centers, health service providers, doctors and other health professionals. Free health screenings on site as well as information on health plans, health insurance, nutrition, exercise and more;


· International Arts & crafts exhibits, demonstrations and activities;


· Upper Manhattan small business expo focusing on small business related issues and information provided by top experts in the fields of business, investment and real estate;


· “Back to School” themed children and youth fashion shows.


· International exhibitors and vendors providing unique gifts. Sample international cuisine and beverages from top restaurants, caterers, bakeries.

This year’s HARLEM DAY will be a day-long salute to “Motown: The Musical” and include performances from cast members of the Broadway hit’s musical throughout the day, in “the best known community in the world.”
