I don't particularly like the idea of nationalizing curriculum, because it becomes less about learning but more about satisfying the bean counters. We see what already happened with No Kid Left Behind Scandals all over the Nation in particular, the Atlanta Teacher's Scandal a couple a years ago. True learning isn't what a child can memorize and regurgitate on an exam. Kudos to you and baby' girl on that calculus!

Great article however I see the concerns particularly about the "fuzzy math" curriculum.
Now Janelle & Saint will be rigorous with our children and to ensure they understand calculations versus mathematical reasoning process approaches.
I do agree with more emphasis in the curriculum outside of Math and English because private high schools have economic classes, more foreign language courses, and other courses that make you more well-rounded. However the big advantage is the semester course in SAT preparation, Kaplan or others preparatory facilities don't touch the rigor of most private high schools courses. Hence why the majority of the kids go to "IVY League" or top rated Universities and Colleges. Not necessarily that they are smarter than kids in the public schools, however they teach you how to take the SAT testing logically with all the pitfalls and tricks.
I'm all in favor with a more diversified curriculum without watering down English and Math.

That goes for the future kids too..... we don't play when it comes to knowledge and education!
