Woman of Ministry:

Focus Guest: Antionette Brown Blackwell

I was born on May 20, 1825 in Henrietta, New York. As a child I was always alert and eager to learn. As I grew up I wanted more to be the fullest I could for serving the Lord. I was excepted the church as part of my life and sought to giving one of my first sermons at the age of 16. I begin teaching school right after my requisite at Monroe County Academy, but there always deemed more to inspire me with God's word. So I attended theology school at Oberlin College with a career in pulpit. It took me four years but I completed and work with several women rights groups, I also wrote articles regarding times of my life for voting for women and civil rights for negroes. As I improved my public speaking I finally made way to being ordained as the first ordained minister in the United States of America through the ministry of the Unitarian Church Congregational. It was a significant time for my life, but not without facing the fact that women were scare as becoming preachers. I kept trying and was God blessed. I had God's direction every step with obstacles I was met opposition to preach his Word but prevailed. . .cause I am a woman.

How so far women have developed in to ministers and teachers of God's word. Many still continue to face opposition, but continue to tell of the Lord's salvation for all.
