That old quote of "bringing home the bacon" may be less said as millions of baby pigs were dying from a unknown virus. The deadly virus began taking it's toll in November 2013 killing 13,000 pigs this spanned within a week to two weeks period. This latest news has caused some concern to pig farmers and or pork producers because a virus that has effected pig well health have not responded to any cures. This may also cause concern that bacon prices will be going up at the local grocery stores. The virus is said to have been transported to a similar virus in China, but how the virus travelled in the U.S. pork producers is unknown. Symptoms of the virus causes chronic diarrhea in young pigs. However, the virus is not spread as a danger to humans who come in contact with the pigs. Some precautions are in place to regulate symptoms of the virus and to prevent further spread by closer monitoring. Meanwhile, some farmers are hopeful that a drug to destroy the virus will soon be available. As of February bacon prices rose almost 13% higher than prices in 2013. Meanwhile, pork and bacon prices may be soaring up, and you'll bring home a higher priced bacon; or you'll leave the bacon flying high at the store.
