The US government has a policy of “participating, covering up and looking the other way” in the murder of African-Americans and the violation of their civil rights, a researcher says.
The recent launch of an investigation by the US Justice Department and the FBI for possible civil rights violations in the shooting death of an unarmed African-American teenager killed by police in Missouri “is too little too late and they don’t really mean it,” Randy Short said.
“I have no confidence in the FBI, this is face saving.”
US Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed the FBI probe and said in a statement, “The shooting incident in Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend deserves a fulsome review."
Michael Brown, 18, was shot multiple times and killed by a police officer on Saturday afternoon in Ferguson, a small city outside of St. Louis. According to eyewitnesses, the killing was unprovoked.
President Barack Obama and “his crony Eric Holder, who is a very, very dishonest law enforcement person who’s made his career off of destroying black men, they’ve done nothing,” Short told Press TV on Tuesday.
“The Justice Department’s ability to enforce civil rights doesn’t exist because it was destroyed by the Bush administration and the Obama administration has done nothing to put force and resources and persons to uphold this,” he added. “In fact, the Obama administration and Eric Holder have allowed blacks literally to be murdered as a human sacrifice.”
The shooting death of Brown has sparked outrage across the US and violent protests in his community. His death sparked riots Sunday night and stores near the scene of the incident were looted while police in riot gear tried to control the crowd.
Activist say the US has a long history of police brutality against African-Americans, where blacks are frequently murdered by US law enforcement agencies since violence and brutality is deeply rooted in the police culture.
“Blacks being murdered by the police and the FBI and others either participating, doing nothing or looking the other way or covering up is policy, if it were not this, this wouldn’t be so consistent,” Short said.
