Thousands are invading a public protest in order to have a democratic government in Hong Kong. The protesters are seeking a response from the government to meet their demands for reforms for rights to vote, and to be granted reforms to the former British colony. The protesters whom gathered peacefully were met with opposition of tear gas on Monday as crowded streets filled with many carrying umbrellas made way to participate in the protest. The protests begin on Friday night, September 25, 2014 and has continued to grow. At least 87 rounds of tear gas was exploded into the growing crowd by law officials on Sunday, September 28, 2014 which was critisized because the crowd was mostly non-violent. In addition to reform, the protesters are demanding that the current leader Chief Executive Leun Chun-ying meet their reforms and for him to step down as lead of Hong Kong. Presently, the protesters are growing by the thousands and the leaders of the Broader Occupy Civil disobedience which joined on protests Sunday have set a deadline for October 01, 2014 that their demands be made. So far, the police are keeping close watch of the public protest and are said to have the situation under control. October 01, 2014 is a holiday in Hong Kong, but downplay of celebrations including fireworks may be altered ; or cancelled due to the protests.

I've noticed that a number of the young demonstrators in Hong Kong are using the same "hands up, don't shoot" gesture that became a symbol of last month's protests in faraway Ferguson, Missouri. I remember seeing the people of Hong Kong protesting in support of Ferguson before. It's amazing how Trayvon Martin's and Mike Browns deaths have sparked movements around the world.
