The president of the country Burkina Faso has resigned his position as leader. Blaise Compaore announced his resignation following violent protests at his attempt to extend his 27 year rule. This was due that the ruler attempted to amend the constitution laws of the country. Angry protesters who opposed his changes demanded that he resign. Large groups formed and occupied public spaces and cheered when they heard news broadcasting his resignation. In the broadcast speech the resigning president stated.. " In order to preserve the democratic gains, as well as social peace. I declare a power vacuum to all the establishment of a a transition leading to free and fair elections within a maximum of 90 days." After which he departed with an envoy and his whereabouts are not known. Since his resignation, Military Chief Gen Honore Traore has taken over as head of state.
