Brooklyn Love Triangle Ends In Double Murder

Steven Whittingham (pictured above), is in police custody for allegedly fatally attacking his wife, Jonelle Barker Whittingham and her co-worker, Jerome Barrett, with a knife early Wednesday morning.

Barker and Barrett both worked as baggage handlers at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport, the New York Daily News reports. Investigators believe that the two were having an affair that was later discovered by Whittingham. It’s believed that the suspect crept up on Barrett, who was also married, and Barker, as they were having s*x in a parked car, flew into a rage and launched his attack.

Although gravely wounded, Barrett was able to flee the scene of the attack. Before collapsing, he attempted to get help by ringing the buzzer of a Brooklyn apartment building. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries. His naked body was later discovered outside of that apartment building. His clothes and wallet were found a few feet away from his body, said police sources.

The following day at approximately 3:30 a.m., cops located Barrett’s vehicle not far away from where his body was found. In the trunk, was Barker’s naked body. She, too, had been stabbed to death. Barker’s husband surrendered to authorities prior to the discovery of her body.

“This is a shock to all of us,” said a cousin of Whittingham. “He loved her so much.”
Neighbors described the suspect as a family man who was just seen purchasing donuts for his children. Police sources say that the entire attack was captured by a surveillance camera. Whittingham has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder.

Isn't this what is considered to be a rage due to a crime of passion where a person who would ordinarily walk away is not able to do so due to rage from being hurt?

My heartfelt prayers go out to the children of the two who lost their lives in the heat of the moment. Its really sad how temptation can cause us to do the wrong thing for all the wrong reasons.
