A 10-month-old baby girl in an inflatable toy drifted nearly half a mile out to sea after her parents had forgotten they’d left her out there.
The baby, Melda, floated off Çanakkale beach in Turkey and had to be rescued by a coast guard ship as she drifted towards the Greek island of Lesbos.

She was returned safely to her parents, who hopefully learned their lesson:
Other beachgoers had tried to save Melda, but the current was too strong for them to safely reach her.
