Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Muslims across the world fast and pray for 30 days and herald the beginning of the month that follows Ramadan, with grand celebrations.
On the day of Eid, the young and the old gather at mosques to offer prayers thanking Allah (God) for his benevolence and love.
Muslims wish each other by saying "Kul 'am wa enta bi-khair!" (May every year find you in good health!), "Eid Saeed!" (Happy Eid!) or simply "Eid Mubarak!" (Happy Eid).
Interesting that it coincides with the Pope's address to Congress.
