Depression is a common psychiatric disorder. A major contributor to the global burden of disease, depression is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. In the United States, the lifetime prevalence of depression is between 15% and 20%. Women are more commonly affected.[1] Suicide is a major complication of depression and is a leading cause of death in the United States.
