Snippets from the Avenging The Ancestors annual 4th of July Black Independence Day rally at 5th and Market Streets in Philadelphia at the home of the Monument Honoring the nine enslaved Africans George Washington brought with him to Philadelphia to serve him while he resided in the Morris House that served as the first White House during his presidency. Through the efforts of activists known as ATAC who protested and demanded recognition of the institution of slavery and George Washington's role in it, a modern interactive exhibit was constructed at the site of the Liberty Bell pavilion. This exhibit acknowledges and pays homage to the enslaved Africans who toiled in bondage for George Washington when he served as president.
