Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston (January 7, 1891 – January 28, 1960) was an American novelist, Occupation Author, Civil Rights Activist, folklorist, and anthropologist. Of Hurston's four novels and more than 50 published short stories, plays, and essays, she is best known for her 1937 novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. The once-famous writer and folklorist died penniless and alone on January 28, 1960, and buried in an unmarked grave in Fort Pierce, Florida She experienced some backlash for her criticism of the 1955 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, which called for the end of school segregation.
