Turning 50 years old today is director John Singleton who at 24 years old became the first African American and youngest person to be nominated for an Academy Award lighting the way for Lee Daniels, Steve McQueen, and Barry Jenkins. Known for discovering new talent Mr. Singleton has just begun principal photography for season two of the new FX show "SNOWFALL" creating the landscape for a new crop of actors to become houshold names while simultaneously introducing a whole new generation to his body of work. In a 2015 interview when Mr. Singleton was honored at the African American Film Critics Awards I had an opportunity to speak with him about black film,race and culture. Take a look!
