How the media created the shutdown myth

How the media created the shutdown myth

1. They took what Sarah Sanders said starting at 4:23 of the daily briefing on December 18, 2018 and told a big fat lie.

2. The big fat lie was:

"President Donald Trump on Tuesday abandoned months of strident demands for Congress to give him $5 billion for his border wall, bowing to political reality as Republicans scrambled to avoid shutting down large portions of the government this weekend.

"It was a stunning turnaround from one week ago, when Trump told Democratic congressional leaders during a bizarre on-camera sparring match that he'd be "proud" to shut down the government to get his wall money. Instead, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday, Trump does not want a shutdown and will identify "other ways" to fund a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border."

3. Then building on that lie they created a bigger, fatter lie:

"Trump initially threatened a shutdown if he did not receive $5 billion in funding for the wall, stating he’d be “proud” to do so in the name of border security. The White House appeared to back down from that position on Tuesday, showing support for a short-term spending measure that did not contain wall money but would have kept the government open until Feb. 8.

"On Thursday, the president changed course again, asserting that he refused to sign a funding bill that didn’t provide money for the border wall — prompting the shutdown."

4. Then they capped it all off with the final lie and repeated it until the extremely gullible masses of Democrats took it as fact:

"So what caused Trump to flip back? Some have suggested that he bowed to backlash from high-profile conservative pundits — notably Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh — who lambasted the president for appearing to concede on the wall funding."

And there you have it.

I see Ron, you'd rather post more lies than to address this one.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 9:21AM

Remember Steve, these are Donald J. Trump's LIES.

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 9:53AM

So you still believe your BS that Trump made his decision not to sign the CR based on Limbaugh and Coulter?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 11:55AM

The evidence points in that direction. Steve, Trump was about to sign a bill that he asked for from congress, until ANNIE and LIMBOY aired their opinions.

Trump is trying to hold on to his shrinking base of Supporters because Donald Trump's poll's for Impeachment is Higher Than it ever been and he is scared of this scandal.

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 2:56PM

What evidence Ron? Trump was NOT about to sign a bill. He was waiting to see if he got a real spending bill or a continuing resolution. He was NEVER "about to sign" a CR. NEVER RON. DO YOU HEAR ME?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 4:06PM

KEEP YOUR PANTIES ON STEVE. Trump done told you so many LIES, you don't know when to believe him.

Steve, According to New York Times On Dec. 20, 2018 WASHINGTON — President Trump on Thursday torpedoed a spending deal and sent the government careening toward a Christmastime shutdown over his demand of $5 billion for a wall on the southwestern border, refusing to sign a stopgap measure to keep funds flowing past midnight Friday.

With Mr. Trump unwilling to admit defeat on his signature campaign promise despite a clear lack of votes to get it through Congress, House Republican leaders scrambled for a way out of the year-end morass. On a dizzying day in the Capitol, House Republicans pushed through legislation to add $5.7 billion for the wall to a measure to extend government funding into February, making a last stand in the final hours of their majority to back the president’s hard-line immigration promises.

Now remember Steve, this was a last minute action on the part of Trump, just right after the elections and only a few days before the transfer of power in The House from Republican to the Democrats.

Look at the video at the last link in my post Ron and you will see Trump's tweet on that Thursday. He was not the one lagging, it was good ole Mitch.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 5:06PM

Who runs this Government, good ole Mitch or Donald J. Trump?

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 6:50PM

Read Article I, Article II, and Article III of the Constitution and you will find out Ron.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 7:28PM

Well then act accordingly Steve. ad lease act like you know who runs this Government. WOW!!!

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 8:36PM

On that note I'll just say, I would support another shutdown if the Democrats refuse our funding of the wall, which obviously that's what they plan, liars that they are.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 9:11PM

How unfortunate.

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 5th 2019 at 10:40PM

Then give us that measly $5.7 billion for the wall. Trump won't stop until we get it.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, February 6th 2019 at 8:54AM

Trump had a control of both house and the Republicans did not give the leader of The Republican Party a dime for a wall, not a dime. SORRY!!! what happened back then?
