Growing Up on the Westside: A 50 Year Look Back at the Black Community

We grew up on the westside of Detroit, Mi., but this story can probably reflect the west, north, east or southside of any Black community in America. Our family was one of the few dysfunctional Black families back then, mother and father were divorced and we were raised by our grandparents, aunts and uncles. Many other families were still intact with both the mother and the father and many of those families had decent homes, cars and jobs. The neighborhoods were tough, but decent.

I agree Brother Doctor CR Minister, that story could very well be the story of my community.

I also have some fun family memories of Bell Isle, going across Ambassador Bridge and coming back through The Tunnel. You brought back memories, Thank You.
