House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) and other House Republican leaders spoke about the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban takeover of the country. Leader McCarthy said that the House should focus on nothing but bringing Americans home from Afghanistan. Republican lawmakers who served in the country spoke about their experiences and shared stories of those who have not been evacuated. Representative McCarthy responded to questions about the August 31 withdrawal deadline, intelligence failures regarding the Taliban takeover, and possible investigations if Republicans gain control of the House in 2022.
