Why Are White Americans Confused About Racism?

Is it just me or do you find that more and more white people don't think racism exists? Others say it exists, but it's "just not that bad." Are the people that say this plain ignorant or just really out of touch?

Most African Americans I know face racism and discrimination on a regular basis. Many still have problems at school, at work, in their communities, and with their local law enforcement.

What is it about Racism you would like for some white Americans to understand? Power held by white institutions will not concede their power to weak individuals.

I don't think they are confused, i think they are becoming aware that racism has many forms. I believe they would like the whole discussion to go away. They pay compliments to Obama for his speech on race but they don't change, don't know how to change and are not willing to admit that even the most liberal of them might have a hint of prejudice in them. We don't need leaders to do our talking for us, we need to engage white folks on a one-on-one basis whenever possible. They need to see our faces and realize we are as human as they are. Someone played with my 'fro a few weeks ago. I had to smile at that. After all these years, my hair is still a mystery to some.
