Bill Cosby's "Come on People" - your thoughts?

I haven't read the book. My opinion about us missing oppurtunities for self improvement are evident by our personal situations. Racism and class add to our social problems but racism and class seem to be results from our historical background.

Cosby's comments are viewed by many as an assault on the Black community. I have mixed views. On the one hand, we are doing more to hurt ourselves and on the other there are many variables creating the hurt.

I believe the problem stems from having a "Black" society. Or any society based on race alone. Once we start dealing with the AMERICAN society and realizing that EVERYONE deserves help no matter who they are, then we're getting somewhere. For us to be American citizens and continue to hobble into little groups of people that look like us is rediculous.

I haven't read the book. Nonetheless, I don't think I would value the thoughts of a Bill Cosby at this point. I respect his right to an opinion, because he is an elder. Yet, I believe that racism and classism play a significant role in the lives of those who allow oppression with in their minds.
We have to learn to find our own mental railroads to freedom.

Sorry, but I don't want to hear anything this man has to say about how and what we as parents or a community are, should or not doing.

If I'm not mistaking Mr. Cosby (who is entitled to his opinion) was not the one actually raising his children on a daily, it was his wife Camille in the day to day of it all. Sure made sure to be a part of his children's lives like any parent is suppose to be, well one that would like to be considered a good parent. I just would respect the words more from his wife than from him, not because she is a woman, but because she was the one in the grind of it all while he was traveling, working extremely long hours and the like.
