Well, the secret's out. Race is an issue in this election.
Of course race is an issue. It's an issue in just about everything we do here in America, and I think most Americans of all colors are about tired of it.
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of oversensitive media hype about the latest political "gaffe", waiting for public figures to slip up in any way that remotely hints at race.
The uncomfortable fact is that yes, there are some Blacks voting for Obama simply because he's Black. There are some Whites voting for McCain simply because he's White. So what. I'm not one of them. The racist votes will simply offset each other.
The great majority of us are more concerned with our own future and wellbeing than the color of the President's skin. Specifically, we want some economic relief from inflation and gas prices, and to get our military out of Iraq. Healthcare that won't bankrupt America or leave most of us out in the cold would be nice too.
I really wish the media would give the race bit a rest already. Otherwise, the only change we'll see once our next president is in office, is the daily tit-for-tat that we're seeing in the news during this election will continue for the next four years. The rest of the world is looking at the US like we're idiots, bickering about race while our nation slowly descends into obscurity.
China's oil consumption is going to double in the next 5 years, rivaling the US? Who cares? Someone said Barack Hussein Obama on the air and it sounds too foreign.
What's that about American schools ranking 18th out of 24 industrialized nations? Never mind... Obama said something about "looking different" in one of his speeches.
Get real. When is America going to wake up and realize that we're being hustled?
You should read some of the racists blogs on the net...being passed around just below the surface of the news media and the attention of most peoplein this country. Listen, whites are the ones that rarely get an opportunity to vote for a black person. They are the race that has had the comfort of voting for one of their own. Of course, many of us are voting for Barack because he is one of our own! But the question is, what will the overwhelming marjority of white folks do. It's their move to show they are not prejudice. This is their time to express fairness. We've always voted for white candidates for the President of the United States. What are they gonna do and why?
