I thought I was old when I got BS in my thirties. After hearing this story, I'm not trying to hear anybody give me any excuses for not going back to college because of their age. They better find a different excuse.
I'll go you one better: My aunt got her bachelors degree at 66 and her masters degree at 68!
One day many years ago, I read a story in "Ask Ann Lander" that motivated me. A guy wrote in and asked if he should go back to school at age 45. He told about his family, 3-kids, and 2-jobs...and ask if it would be worth the sacafrice. In his "guestimation", it would take his 4-5 years to complete a program. He asked if it was worth his time...
Ann Lander's response was so simple that I signed up for my first classes that day. She wrote: How old will you be in 4-5 years if you don't go back to school?
Your post makes me very, very happy as this is so seldom brought to public attention. I know that she is just as proud as I was when I graduated from college in 1992 at 48 years old. At this time my award was for being the oldest person to graduate from UC Davis in its over a hundred years in existance. Again thank you for this blessing you just brought into my home.
I pray that more see this post and talk about those of senior age Blacks graduating from college in their area .
Hi Dr. Glover, If I ever see you on TV, I will not forgive you if you do not pass this this one on to all, young and old. That Ann Landers quote is a priceless. And, Kenneth, this one is ready to help you when you refuse to take those usual excuses that most likely be coming....
...and, oh, Dr.S your aunt is a priceless mankind jewel! Please tell her she has left me speechless!!! "You go girl"!
