This is a picture of my brother Chris Cook and I after we ran in the Project Children 5K race in Maplewood NJ on 08/07/08.My brothrt Chris finished the race with a time of 24.35 and George I finished with a time of 29.44. That's me on the left, George Cook

It was our first 5k race and both of us were happy to help out the Project Children Charity which is dedicated to showing Protestant and Catholic kids that they have nothing to fear from each other and much to gain from getting to know each other.

My brother and I were disapointed although not surprised that there were not many african americans there.

I think we really need to pay more attention to our health before we are told by a doctor that we have to because of illness or body pains due to weight gain. The sad part is that many medical conditions that befall African Americans can be prevented by excersise and better eating habits.

Saying you don't have time or are to old is no excuse. I saw all tpes of people out there running. Fat, thin, young, and old. The only thing required is dedication.

If you can't take care of yourself for you then do it for your loved ones. They need you.

Great message George. Your right most people don't exercise because the feel they don't have the time. I commend you and your brother for making a difference during that 5K run! As far as dissappointment, don't be just continue to get the message out there and eventually others will follow.
