Relive the movement
Looking for a way to invoke the messages of the March on Washington this month? Take a leaf from the history of the Montgomery bus boycott. The news that Walmart has told its supervisors and employees that an Obama candidacy would be "bad for business" should help black consumers shop someplace else during this back to school season.
It is important to let those powerful forces that oppose change that there is a cost to be paid. When Oprah took the courageous step of supporting his presidential bid, there was a corresponding drop in her viewership among those who didn't like it.
We too should vote with our dollars as well. Like Walmart, the CEOs of ExxonMobil and Chevron have recently been critical of this historic campaign.
In addition to the outrageous profits they've made and environmental damage to black residents in the East Bay of northern California, that should be sufficient reason to buy gas some place else.
They've made their choice.
We should make ours.

I agree with you. Often people feel that they are powerless, but you can always vote with your dollars. Walmart is not the only place where we should stop spending our money. Our voices are stronger when we back them with action. Sometimes we may just have to sacrifice a few dollars. This could also help black businesses. How many times do we complain and unofficially ‘boycott’ black-owned businesses, but let white businesses treat us just any old way?
We should be willing to pay a little more to be true to our values. I have written about this in my latest book 7 Principles for Purposeful Living. Every penny you spend casts a vote. I also offer a free e-book, Is Your Money Falling Through the Cracks? This e-book can show you some was to save more of what you have and soften the sacrifice of paying a little more by, NOT shopping at Walmart.
