I have to speak this week on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia on the subject, “The Challenges of being in a Long Distance Relationship” and I was wondering is anyone out here in Black America going through this particular challenge? Please post and share your perspective on some of the issues that you go through. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/brothermarcus...

Where are you speaking? I love my long distance relationship. The challenge is two abitious people finding time to cover the distance between. We love coming together and we love going home... LOL. We make the best. We get really excited over Air Tran sales.

BEEN THERE DONE THAT. I WAS YOUNGER THAN I'M NOW. AND IT'S TRUE THAT CARMA COMES BACK TO BITE YOU. NOT FOR ME BUT FOR MY EX. BEAU. HE COULD NOT AND DID NOT HOLD TRUE TO OUR RELATIONSHIP.... IF IT WAS NOT FOR MY DAD. SITTING AT HIS SISTER'S HOUSE AND NOTICE THE SAME GUY THAT WAS ON MY PROM PICTURE WITH HIS NIECE ON HER PROM PICTURE. WHO WOULD KNOW WHERE WE ALL WOULD BE TODAY. I CAUGHT UP WITH HIM EYE TO EYE. AND THAT WAS FOR THE BEST. OVER THE PHONE AND LETTERS ARE NOT THE WAY TO GO. UNLESS YOU JUST HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. HE DID NOT LIE TO BAD BUT IN THE END I SAID I DID NOT TRUST HIM AND WE COULD ONLY BE FRIENDS AND NOT ANY THING MORE THAN THAT. HE COULD BE FREE NOT TO CHEAT WITH ME AND GO TO HER. AFTER ALL THEY LIVED IN THE SAME TOWN. WHO KNOWS, I DID NOT, IF THEY WERE MORE IN LOVE THAN I THOUGHT HE AND I WERE. JUST REMEMBER SOMETIMES COUSINS ARE LIKE SISTERS YOU DON'T CROSS THE LINE. IN MY CAUSE I DID NOT. SHE DID!!!!!!!!!!! AND HE DID!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT ALL HE COULD SAY HE DID NOT KNOW WE WERE FAMILY!!!!!!!

I totally would NOT do a long distance relationship, though opportunities have arisen, I just don't think it's for me. Isn't the point of a relationship to have someone to share with, good times and bad? It's pretty hard to share when you have to do that via webcam or telephone calls. Where is the congratulatory pat and on the back and peck on the cheek? The reliable embrace during hard times? And we all have that time when we are absolutely down and out and just need someone to be there. Physically be there. Words are poor conveyors of emotion.

I know from experience since my husband and I before we were married and united with one another...it's the distance for sure that is the most challenging.

When you wake up in the middle of the night and want someone to hold onto...there is you and the pillow. Of course you can call the person , email, and even use web camaras now a days, but it is the distance that is the most challenging.

So very true Sis. It's also true for brothers. Mariah Carey asked the questions in one of her songs, "Who am I going to lean on when times get rough? Who is going to talk to me until the sun comes up? All of us need someone who knows how to just hold us and comfort us in the midnight hour of the night and the midnights or the dark periods that we all occassionally experience in our lives. Many of us are going through this right now. If we are not careful because of that need and the intense loneliness of the moment we might make some pretty huge mistakes.
