BREAKING GROUND, BREAKING SILENCE: An Anniversary Ceremony For Our Ancestors In New York

The remains of 427 slaves and free blacks were given a hollow resting place at the African Burial Ground Memorial in lower Manhattan New York. This cemetery for slaves and free blacks dating back to the 17th century was re-discovered in 1991 during a $300 million government building project. The discovery of these remains is a reminder of black contributions to building New York.

In the book, "Breaking Ground" by Joyce Hansen and Gary McGowan, the story of these slaves and free blacks come to life in an awesomely real way. Readers can follow their deaths to learn about their lives through artifacts uncovered in their graves. The book is written for easy understanding by young adults as well as adults. The story of these ancestors will move you in a most unexpected, chiling way.

I love this. Thanks for the information and additional knowledge. I can never have enough or know enough to ever truly call myself an authority on Black History. Thanks again.
