THE NUMBER 13--AND 10 COMMON PHOBIAS

Salutations!

I'm always trying to improve in areas of knowledge. I read and study even though I've been out of school for quite some time. Reading is fundamental! I discover and open up to pages where I learn something new everyday. When I discovered today is October 13. I knew that so many have the fear of this number! When this idea hit my brain! I wondered what is the most likely phobia I have. I pondered and decided it's "Zuesophobia" Now, just in case you're not aware of what is Zuesophia is it's the fear of God. Which I find this is most logical because I fear the Lord and keep his commandments. However, there was so many phobias in my findings, there was no way I could learn of all of them. So, I narrowed it down to the 10 most common ones.

Since the word phobia means fear of-- I know there are millions of people who suffer with phobias. I once met a lady who feared the dark. She said she slept with all the lights on in her house. I offered some what comfort I could. I even offered spiritual help to her, insisting God can help her live without any fears. It was to little avail, because she has lived with her fear all of her life. Fearing the dark is called Nyctophobia.

Another of most common fear is the number 13. And mostly Friday the 13th. This fear is called Trisaidaphobia. Mostly, common this fear is linked to bad luck and bad vibes. Many suffer from this and live in total fear that they will not leave their homes, drive or do anything that they feel will go wrong with anything invovling the number 13.

Severe fears can turn into major attacks and episodes of deep anxiety and may become extreme and require medical attention. I read also, about other conditions of depression such as bi-polar and panic attacks. It was an interesting adventure of reading and research. It's always more to know. Here is the list of the 10 most common fears:

See if you know any of them:
1.Acrophobia--Fear of Heights
(2_Claustrophobia-Fear of enclosed spaces
(3_Nyctoophia-Fear of the Dark
(4_Ophidiophobia--Fear of Snakes
(5_Arachnophia--Fear of Spiders
(6)__Trypanophobia--Fear of injection/or medicalneedles
(7)_Astraphobia--Fear of Thunder storms
(8)_Nosophobia--Fear of having a disease
(9)_Mysophobia--Fear of Germs
(10)_Trisaidaphobia--Fear of the number 13

Well, some things are good to know, and I find I do fear the Lord so I have
Zuesophobia--Fear of God. But, I love him very much. He conquers all fears if we let him. It's been a joy! We all need knowledge!
What's your fear? If you don't know that phobia's name drop me a comment. I probably can look it up for ya!

Blessings to you!

I have...Trypanophobia--Fear of injection/or medicalneedles. This is due in part from an experience I had while giving birth to one of my children. The nurse was trying to put an IV in my arm. I am a very thin person, and she scraped the bone in my forearm with the needle, then had to remove the bent needle, which bruised my arm from shoulder to fingertip. I have rolling veins which assisted in the bruising, but it added to me a fear of the failablilty of humans. I don't trust the breaks on my car, even if they are brand new. I have a fear of bridges, or more specifically, driving over or under them, and seeing the one that collapsed a couple of years ago didn't ease that fear at all. I don't know the names of these fears, but I trust in my Daddy's protection and provision, so I have no "parilizing" fears while I am still here on earth. I also have a fear concerning my art. It is a fear that I won't be able to "keep up" with the demand for my art, a fear that I won't be able to complete project orders on time, a fear of not being able to hire someone else to help make the art. Praise God I got over my fear of my art being an evil thing based on the scripture that says, "thou shalt make NO graven image".
Thank you for this post, it forces me to look at the things I do still fear and allows me to focus on ways to lean on the Lord to overcome them. GB

Hi Lesley, I always try to give ways we can let Our Lord use us to edify him. To seek him in knowledge and to rely on him to take care of us and our fears! Grand response! By the way,... I love you!

MIISRAEL, I dig this. However, in the spirit of love and of wanting to give full understanding to your defining yourself as a Zeusophobe, I will say that the fear of God and these sometimes debilitating fears are not the same or even similar.

Why? ...glad you asked. ;-)

Zeusophobia is also known as theophobia, as in to be afraid of God or gods or religion...an IRRATIONAL fear of God. Here's a link to more info and an interesting start to a conversation with NYU law professor Rick Hills about his experience with someone he believed to be theophobic: http://prawfsblawg.blogs.com/prawfsblawg/2... (Also, the first syllable of Zeusophobia is taken from the king of the Greek gods, Zeus).

The fear of God is a healthy fear...a reverent fear...a respectful fear-- not to be afraid OF, which is what "phobias" are. It's not the same as these phobias.

So I ask you to rethink your position and ask a poignant question:

DO you have Theophobia (Zeusophobia)?

Blessings...

Dee, you know! I mean in RESPECT--"OUT OF REVERENCE" No idol gods for me! I wondered about that Zues as well, but my source didn't supply that particular information. Perhaps I didn't do enough research, but I can see you've been busy! .....that's a good thing...Like I said for me I'm a pupil and I learn to learn more. Isn't this great everyone of us are educating each other..AWESOME! Just like the God I love to fear, and serve!

MIISRAEL, I knew what you MEANT because I've been around here long enough to know that YOUR fear of God is not at all phobic and that's why I re-asked the question after I did the research. And I'm learning quite a lot from YOU, too.

Personally, I am really trypanophobic, but it's from being stuck with countless needles during my first pregnancy over a decade ago. Depending on the size of it, I also sometimes have gephyrophobia, the fear of crossing bridges...in my case HIGH bridges with waters underneath.

This is interesting and funny to me because I know quite a few people who seem to have Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, and as you've probably guessed, it's the fear of long words. LOL.

Anyway, this is fun. LOL.

Blessings...
