Black Men and Black Love: Sharing Our Success with Black Women

Recently,

I have had conversations with at least two Women of Color about the importance of Black men choosing Black women to rise with them in America. This listening, brought an understanding to me of how important it is for Black men to have as their equal, a Black woman on their side as we rise.

I learned, that Black women in particular, feel left out or hurt, when they see brothers with White women or women of other Ethnic groups as we climb the corporate ladder and make strides towards progress.

I can hear in them, "What about us??"

"Why not me??"

Some Black women are let down by our choice of mate. They know our struggle. Many of them helped us get to where we are. They have listened to our pain and drastic experiences. Can we blame them for being upset with us, or for feeling left out?

One of those same sistas expressed to me that even when brothas have White women, we are still looking at them, and are trying to hook up with them. Black woman are now second rate? Or have we run away from them mentally and spiritually and would rather just hook up with them? This is complex.

However, when we are looking into a Black woman's eyes, we are looking at our friends, the mothers of much progress and labor, the strength that has helped carry us far, the comfort we have always needed and searched for.

They say that love is love, but there is something about Black/Nubian love. Check out Will and Jada, Bill and Camille Cosby, and Ossie and Ruby Dee.

So my brothas and sistas, Black love is worth it, right?
