Essence Magazine Article: McCain Supporter Wants to Clear the Air

{A few weeks ago,} James T. Harris went from being an average guy to one of the most reviled men in Black America. At a Waukesha, Wisconsin, town hall rally with Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin on Thursday, the African-American radio host from Milwaukee pleaded with McCain to step up his attacks against Barack Obama. “We have the good Reverend Wright. We have [the Reverend Michael L.] Pfleger,” Harris said to the cheers of thousands of White audience members. “I am begging you, sir. I am begging you. Take it to him.” In a show of true solidarity, Harris, 44, and the Republican nominee then hugged.

As this moment spread throughout the media, many African-Americans likened his impassioned remarks to racial betrayal and subservient shuffling. Theories circulated that Harris was a plant for the McCain campaign. ESSENCE.com talked with Harris, who describes his political beliefs as being “right of Rush,” about how he ended up at the town hall, receiving hate mail, and how he really feels about that hug with John McCain.

What ever happened to there is no black America, no white America only the United States of America? This is a conservitive MAN who believes that John McCain can serve his ideals better as a president than Barack Obama can. Why must he, as a man, capitulate to those whome he does not ideolgically follow. This is the America I thought people of all colors have strived and fought for. Content not color...

I don't know what Harris was thinking, but apparently he lives in his own Utopia different from his fellow African-Americans perhaps similar to Justice Clarence Thomas or perhaps Harris has decided to dissassociate himself from the challenges of other African Americans.

Charles Barkley who is a Republican as well, but apparently not as articulate as Harris makes more sense than Harris. I love Sir Charles when he said that Evangelicals were a bunch of fake Christians. With all the things that I have seen with so-called Evangelicals coming out endorsing McCain's campaign with the his choice of running mate, I believe Barkley was right on the money.

There is one thing about being a "token" you have no one to watch your back. The first time I saw this gentelman was on I believe it was CNN a few days ago.It could have been MSNBC as I watch them all...any way he was on a program being interviewed on a split screen. the other person on this interview about what Harris had gone wrong was a Black man, a Black Conservative Republican.

He said he had no say in if Harris had sold out our raceor not, but as he was a Conservative Republican that Harris had sold out the Conservatives! He explained how Harris had backed the most 'less' Conservative, Senator McCain, that he could back. He said that Harris should not claim that he is a Conservative at all!

With this Harris got outrageous snached off his mike and walked out of the interview from which ever studio he was in. the other Black man was in the actual studio wher the program was coming from. The other man remained calm even when Harris had called the other Black man "liberal"! After all what could Harris say to this fact? I can almost say that Harris walked out of the interview in a state because he was about to cry, because just before his outrage he held his head down in total dispare as he slowly shook his head from side to side. I see Black men doing this kind of behavior at grave sites.

My thought was, Harris where do you go now?!?Even John McCain admits that he is not a Consertative after all President George Bush is a Conservative!!I doubt if any Black people will do any actual physical harm to Harris, but if this man has a little sense, He had better not attend a McCain-Palin rally with out a special media picture OK to be there among all of those people who go by the color of your skin and not who you are as a way to welcome you amonge them! Ask O. J. Simpson where were all of those high priced attorneys this time around?Even O.J.'s token attorney as he is dead could not help him this time around therefore to the White world, he is just another N_____ that they tried to help....
