Reality and Innovation

Good topic to write about. I haven't seen the pilot for "Atlanta Housewives" but the title could use a "pick me up".(After writing this, I have since seen the show) I wouldn't mind checking it out though. We have a lot of spinoffs for shows that are carboncopies nowadays. At best, they last for one season. We don't get many documentary shows such as "American Gangster". Although it can often shows gore and grit, it is an important concept. That show follows more of a History Channel/Biography type formula. It's informative and entertaining.

We do need to see uplifting figures on television such as Rev. Run. The show is scripted, to a certain extent, and at times it does seem farfetched (kids driving the Phantom for drivers' class). However, they are a funny family in my opinion. Other shows that are scripted which would do better as an unscripted series would include Baldwin Hills. Doesn't it need a little free flowing energy? It has a good look already. They have the locations. Let the dialogue flow a bit.

More reality shows are on the horizon because the costs are low and they are simple to create. It would benefit our filmmakers to push the envelope a bit. Even if pushing the envelope means coming up with an original title, let's do it. The same can be said about the musicians. There's a new hip hop group being passed around word of mouth called Kidz in the Hall. Supposedly they are doing things that most current hip hoppers aren't.

Too many cookie cutters, not enough story innovation. Based on my "Myspace Friends" that I've seen recently, we, especially African Americans, also have the ability to create outstanding animated films without being an employee of Dreamworks SKG. Since money is a key issue, it would be a nice project to create 2-3 minute animated shortfilms until the support is there for features. It's an excellent way to practice storytelling.

I don't know much about film production or film making except that it takes money to do anything and some creativity. I am very disappointed with the reality television shows and I honestly miss sit-coms. I don't want to live in reality after busting my bum at work, I want to sit down and enjoy something other than reality. LoL I find myself watching my preschooler's television channel and watching his Dora the Explorer DVDs. I do however like watching Run's House. I love Justine!!!

I definitely understand that Jen Fad. I don't watch many new sitcoms anymore. Run's House is pretty tight though. Oxygen also had a nice show earlier in the year with Deion Sander's Family. It was pretty entertaining so hopefully they will bring it back.
I do have an idea for a pretty nice sitcom but I plan to put dollars in my pocket with documentary shows to set that up. If you know information about your local network, let me know. I'm preparing to shop two shows to markets outside of Houston. Tieuel Legacy! aka Shawnre'
