Wyclef for president of Haiti? I say bad idea (484 hits)

As much as his intentions might be good, I feel this would NOT help Haiti at all.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas as per the Human Development Index. On various occasions, it has experienced political violence throughout its history. Wyclef has MORE disadvantages than advantages. He has never held a government position, he has no political experience, a college drop out. He had issues running his OWN Charity Organization which is under investigation with the accusations of financial misconduct AKA POCKETING THE CHARITY DONATIONS. Jean owes the IRS $2.1 million. How can you not run your own life but want to be president of a country that is not ONLY corrupt but UNSTABLE. He can do more privately than publicly for the nation in regards to government control.
What Haiti needs is an IRON hand political experienced person like Jerry Rowlings was for Ghana in the 80s and early 90s.

This looks more to me like a way to promote his own agenda than for the people of Haiti.
If he can "allegedly" take for him own charity, imagine what he can take from his own country.

Just my 2 cents on this issue.

Exactly, I was having this conversation of facebook amongst friends and I say instead of him running with no background experience. He should use his popularity to help elect someone who have the governmental experience and the willpower and even an iron hand to run the government and help improve the economic and corruptions issues the country heavily deals with.

EVery single point Omosede, Clark and Irma made were excellent. You all may be right.

But...

Who else can do the job? Clearly, Haiti is crying out for leadership. I mean real leadership--not line your pockets and your families pockets leadership.

He seems to be committed to real help. It is true that he has no executive experience wahtsoever and Omosede made the great point that he had problems running his charities.

But he is in a position to employ people who are smart, experienced and just as committed as he is.

So...we'll see.

It may turn out to be diasatrous--I don't know how it can be any more disastrous that all the previous regimes put together.

But he gives people something few political leaders can--HOPE.

If the people of Haiti choose him, it will certainly be an awesome responsibility for him. We will all be praying that he is up to it.

Exactly.

Let's give the man a chance.

He was willing to step up for his country. Let's not cut him off at the knees before he has a chance to do anything good. The Haitian people deserve all our support however we can give it.

Me, "I" chant (pray) that who ever runs for president in this country is not another 'figure head' supported by the fundings of those who will continue to be able to send American jobs into Haiti that will continue to make sure that the people of this country work at jobs that will keep them earning just able slave wages so that those who own these big business can continue to buy mansions and give countless $millions and $ billions in campaign monies to be able to continue to keep this country broke, suffering and willing to accept these violations against their rights to humane treamentments as they must do now!! LETS SEE MAYBE HAITI NEEDS A WHITE MAN AS ITS LEADER...BUT EVEN PUTTING A WHITEMAN IN WILL NOT CAUSE NIKKI TO PAY LIVING WAGES FOR THOSE PRODUCTS THAT THE PARENTS OF THE AVERAGE TEEN IN OUR COUNTRY NEEDS TO WEAR TO KEEP UP WITH THEIR PEERS. (NUP)
