Q&A With Cheryl Hendrix

How did you come to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
"After a long search for something that was missing in my life, but at the time I could not put my finger on what it was. Then, after talking with some Jehovah Witnesses (just to see what the reason was that I had to slam the door on them, besides momma saids) my answer came to me when during my conversation with them, I happened to look up at one point and they were gone. I remember speaking from the book of Acts and Romans. I later found an Apostolic Church in my city, and I felt the tugging of my heart strings. On a Wednesday night after bible study I was baptized in Jesus name and fille with the Holy Ghost. I have been saved for 25 years. I has not been easy but I still can give God praise."

Most memorable experience?
"Wow! I have so many. I do remember learning to drive a stick shift on my best friend's 1960 something VW. The reverse gear was up near first gear, I was doing so well that my first car was a stick shift. My mother who bought my car was concerned that I did not know how to drive it well. As soon as it was delivered of course I had to go to my girlfriend's house to show her my new car. Well, as I put my car in reverse (according to what I had learned) I turned to look back and I pushed on the accelerator and lifted off from the clutch. Well, it turned out that I put the car in first gear (my reverse on my car was soouth of fourth gear) and ran into the family game room. My mother came running out of the house blowing so many obscentities my way my hair was blowing and my cheeks were flapping in the wind. Some few years later, my truck now is a manuel shift."

How can I get my son motivated so he won't end up in a stereotypical situation as a man (no diploma, in an out of jail, etc)
"What type of things does your son like to do? What I have seen thus far in working with children is that it is very important for fathers to be in their sons life. You have to know how important you are to him right now and how you can be that role model in his life. Maybe you could introduce him to the arts such as museums, art shows. What kind of sports is he into? "

Are you concerned about the financial health ofour people?
"I am very concern with the financial health of our people. It seems as though our pennies to the dollar keeps getting lower and lower. Even though we are becoming more educated as a people we are still living below the poverty level and that mostly is because we like to live outside our means therefore, we end up struggling for the things we need."

My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
One of my main concerns is how we treat one another. We definitely do have that "crab barrel" mentality. Some where we lost integrity, respect and values as a great people. We (my generation) have not raised our children to respect family, to empower themselves, or to become a strong individuals where we could just stand without trying to fit in.
