I watched 15-25 minutes of Precious and I am pretty upset. Ok, the projects are hard, there are some really bad things that go on in the Projects, but, Damn, there are some really good things that come out too. They got Monique looking like a dude, rough, disrespectful toward her own mother. I never once, in my youth, in the projects, seen a woman trying to look like a man, on purpose. Never. And all that violence, it's not the norm. There is frustrations, there were problems, but to knock a child unconscious by tossing harmful object at her head, and she's pregnant?
And all that daydreaming, like it's a bad thing. A lot of little girls daydream to escape from their reality. Sometimes grown women daydream. Heck, I daydream once in a while. I hate people lying to me, so I daydream they are going to keep their word; repay a loan I gave; do what they say they going to do. Real life just isn't all that great all the time, but this is an offensive film.
This writer has the world thinking that black females wish they were white (or light skinned), wanting light or white men. What a very sad message this movie sends.
I couldn't watch beyond the birth scene. Having the teenage black girls acting like they falling all over this light skinned (Mr Perry wouldn't have it any other way), was too much. This generation of teen age females, projects or not, don't fall all over anyone. These females are warriors born from frustrated angry women. Maybe I should write my own movie, because it sure as heck won't be no mess like this!
