Is the BIA community better off today.........true or false? (295 hits)

The black community is not better off today – I would like to think so but its misinformed optimism. Wide spread black community success is a façade, yes, you hear black voices on the radio and hear the occasional first black news story, but do not be mislead for one moment. The black community, in general, is producing children in worse shape than the parent and that parent is in worse shape than their parents. The next 50 years will produce the greatest opportunities of this nation, but will bypass over 80 percent of the black population, unless we address the following issues Individually and with the community.

1) 53 PERCENT OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS DO NOT REGULARLY USE A BANK ACCOUNT
2) 34.5 PERCENT OF YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN ARE UNEMPLOYED
3) AFRICAN AMERICAN DEBT IS INCREASING FASTER THAN INCOME

4) ONLY 48% OF AFRICAN AMERICANS OWN A HOME
5) 48% OF AFRICAN AMERICANS HOME REFINANCE APPLICATIONS WERE REJECTED
6) ONLY 5% OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS EARN OVER 100,000 A YEAR
7) AFRICAN AMERICAN REPRESENTS HALF OF ALL AMERICANS WITH HIV
8) AFRICAN AMERICANS EARNED ONLY 3% MORE BACHELOR DEGREES THAN IN 1977
9) 41% OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN HAVE NEVER BEEN MARRIED
10) 10% OF COUNTRY’S ENTIRE BLACK MALE POPULATION, BETWEEN 25 AND 29, WERE IN PRISON
11) 69% OF AFRICAN AMERICAN BABIES BORN IN 2004 WERE TO UNMARRIED PARENTS.

12) 14% OF ALL AFRICAN AMERICANS AGED 20 OR OLDER HAVE DIABETES.

DETAILS BELOW:

53 PERCENT OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS DO NOT REGULARLY USE A BANK ACCOUNT

“More than one in four American households, including more than half of black households, use check cashers, payday lenders or pawnbrokers rather than a bank, according to a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation report to be released today.
Nearly 30 million households have no bank account or have one but also use alternate financial services at least occasionally, according to the FDIC report. The survey, the FDIC's first in-depth study of the issue, was conducted by the Census Bureau.
The problem is most acute among minorities: 53 percent of African-American households and 43 percent of Hispanic households use check cashers or similar services instead of or in addition to banks.
Buying money orders and cashing checks are the most frequent transactions, the survey shows. Those using check cashers and other services say they are faster, cheaper and more convenient than banks - even though they pay a fee to cash a check they could deposit in a bank account for free.”

48% OF AFRICAN AMERICANS HOME REFINANCE APPLICATIONS WERE REJECTED.

Nationwide, black people seeking home loans were rejected more in 2008 than any other racial or ethnic group—48 percent of their applications to purchase or refinance owner-occupied homes were rejected. That’s 22 percent more than the rejection rate for white people, 21 percent more than the rate for Asians and 6 percent more than the rate for Latinos.

According to the Fed study, for every dollar in wealth the median white family had in 2007, the median black family had one dime. Several years earlier, in 2004, the black median family had 14.5 cents for every dollar accumulated by the median white family.

14% of all African Americans aged 20 or older have diabetes.

• 3.7 million, or 14.7 percent of all African Americans aged 20 years or older have diabetes.
• African Americans are 1.6 times more likely to have diabetes as non Hispanic whites.
• 25 percent of African Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have diabetes.
• 1 in 4 African American women over 55 years of age has diabetes.

“Diet, is also a major factor responsible for causing diabetes.
Eating too much of Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, are all harmful to the body. Our body in general needs a balanced diet to produce energy for performing vital functions. Too much of food, hampers the pancreas from performing its function of insulin secretion. Hence, with insufficient insulin secretion, the blood sugar level rises, leading to diabetes mellitus. Normally, people are in habit of eating foods rich in refined carbohydrates, like biscuits, bread, cakes, chocolate, ice creams, pudding, etc. So, the incidences of diabetes are increased in such persons”

I would add a few more statistics.
1) 90% of African Americans are of slaveAncestry
2) 90% of African Americans are converts to christianity since slavery
3) 90% of African Americans are christians in 2009

I believe these three statistics give a better Scholastic point for your Blog so that your readers can determine; "is the BIA community better off-true or false."

Hello to all,

May I ask a question that anyone could take a shot at answering?

Firstly, we all agree that Black Americans who are descendents of slaves are in a dire situation and has always been in such a situation.

So, here is the question. What is the cause and who or what is responsible since it is a settled fact that Black Americans has never had our hands on the helm of our own destiny.

Could someone intelligently answer what is the cause and who is responsible?

Tell me what you think.

weston,

Human beings are developed by family, education and environment.

You initialed a Blog asking if a community of african human beings living in america was better or worse, not I.

You gave BIA some grime statistics of a fragment of the American population, not I.

I added a statistic that, to an intelligent debater, would crystalize the grime statistics that you provided.

Victim is a lazy negros claim.--your claim of statistics.

My claim is that America was never made for africans---they had no purpose of the Founding Fathers and they had no purpose of the people that made America for christian religious "enlightenment"----and "freedom".

Your statistics, not mine, bear out that the BIA community is on the wrong path----
maybe they should GET on the right path before some Grandious statistician makes a determination of their worth.?

Does President Baraka Hussein Obama give You, an intelligent Idea?

Peace To Mr. Weston:

While you are right your analysis keep in mind that each one of us in the Diaspora from Africa and currently located in the United Snakes of America should be striving to help build the best country for the Original People and until we get a land of our own we should do the best to build our communities. Knowledge is a key to success so make your mark on our history and not His-Story, learn about the issues and face the dilemmas the Original Family is confronting today. Being in the land and meeting the people involved is necessary to know and understand what the problems are, where the struggles lie, and who will be solving them in the near future. I'm not talking about a specific leader i.e. President Barack Obama, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton. Don't wait for someone else to do for you, DO FOR SELF!!!

To change or effect the Original Mans world one must start with you own self. Only when you have started working on improving yourself, getting knowledge of self, can you start with elevating your community. Examples of important means are such as discussion groups, workshops and the facilitation of expert speakers and educators to tackle the issues and talk about your views of the problems facing you, your community, and the Original People in whole.

But remember that you have to start with your own self.

First, in order for us to reason, you must have a through knowledge of self. Who is going to teach you that knowledge of self? Who are you waiting for to teach you the knowledge of self? Surely, not your slave-master, who blinded you to that knowledge of self. The slave-master will not teach you the knowledge of self, as there would not be a master-slave relationship any longer.

When you make a deep decision to do something or to make a change, it is a good idea to create an environment that supports and sustains the decision. This is especially important as there are probably already in place old habits that support previous decisions, habits that may have some life of their own, and that may tend to continue on their own...out of habit...until and unless they are replaced with habits that support your new decision.

How can you create an environment that supports a decision? There are many ways, depending upon the circumstances. Here are some possibilities to help you get started:

1. Ask others, enlist and enroll others to help support your new decision. (For example, at a celebration event, when you want to watch what you eat - instead of allowing people to pressure you into "enjoying" yourself by eating what you USED to eat, ask them to help you keep yourself on track, and to help you ward off other people who might press you to eat in your old ways.
2. Make physical changes in your work &/or living space that supports and is in line with your new decision.
3. New clothes that suit your new decision.
4. Create a space that will make room for what you want. Might be a garage for a new car, floorspace for new furniture or an entertainment center, or space for an exercise bike...for instance. Create a space that can be filled with what you want.
5. Re-work your schedule and your habits and routines to support what you decided for. When will you take certan steps that are related to and support your decision?
6. Tell others in your personal or work community of your new decision, and ask for their rhelp and support.
7. If you are in the habit of telling people about intentions you then don't act on...then consider keeping it a secret, and using all that energy towards implementing your new decision, and SHOW people the results.
8. Change your community: educate people about your decision, and associate less with those who support your old decision, and associate more with people who will gladly support your new decision.
9. Plan a legacy, or something else that implies having succeeded at your new decision. Focus on that.
10. Study your rights and responsibilities as a citizen in a democracy and having the skills and confidence to put them into practice, in other words, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
11. Pay attention to the present, and take actions that support your new decision, now...refusing to live in the future or the past.

Live the way you want to live, now. Reign in your own kingdom.

Signing Off,

Siebra

Ok so Thomas Jefferson owned a Qur'aan
Africans in America were not educated, Africans were given No SpiritualThought, death if they could read, men to be mindless, language less, beasts of burden, and women to be mindless cooks and semen receptors.

Ignorance, my definition, Is Ignoring Truth.

What were your statistics for?

We need to look at ourselves as Men and Women. The people in those statistics have reached an environment that supports and sustains them----

We are a better people and a better nation when we understand Our Leader President Baraka Hussein Obama.

I do not care about any statistic before 2009----

As a passenger on the train of CHANGE we will create an environment where we stop referring to ourselves as colors of victimization.

My only problem with these are where is the statistics on the aborted nonblack nonpoor people in America alone

HOw many people by color have been proven innocent 20-30-4- years after being in prison?
A .no defnse in court as required by the constution
B. because of their skin color
c. because they were just at the wrong place and all blacks look alike
Now this is just a start on how this nation needs us as black peoples leading these kinds of racist charges because they will never be able to even bring it up before any black think tanks...

Thank you so very, very much for that "objective" information Clark. thank you so very, very much for that 'subjective 'information Derek, and my special thanks to Mr. Weston for this much needed post.

I would like to talk about how we too often use SLAVERY ALONG WITH RELIGION in about 99 1/2% of the time in order to wage major/endless wars with our own selves so that we can not hold our ownselves responsiable in our quest to distroy the very things we want and need which is peace on earth and even the earth...

We do this so automatic until we reject we as humans tend to reject human behavior is natural and can not be socal lized nor legalized under the label of CIVILIZED.

What in specific I mean by this is we in the name of I" am not responsible for my own natural need to SURVIVE end up piting nature against nature or religion against science or reaity/truths of the individual's world against mankind's needs as a whole,,,man's most basic need is to survive...this for me includes; genes, race, culture, religious beliefs, family, friends and life as we most enjoy it! example,

Derek trys to say that we are free and equal while at the same time say that we (in the black community)are wrong because we do not raise our children the way the White people do therefore we are the cause of the way we are considered (prove and this post )as a negative...He has no idea how this statistics was come by and does not even challenge it because it does not have a positive thing in it and this is all of the proofs he needs!!!!!!!!!!!!I guess if we were still slaves we would be more of constructive, positive on/for America?LOL?

Irma says that this is not only unfair, but this kinds of tunnel vision mind set s are at the very root of his complaints about the Black community and has nothing to do with the Black individual's actual behaviors...he ha sno idea about any black community except what he has learned to place prejudice as in ignorant as his guide and his decission maker; and, exactly why do I say this..it is because I have been black all of my life and this does not apply to me, my children nor my grandchldren dispite my having lived in the world of White only and Black only.I have seen my people hung for being Black and proud. If anyone has a reason to be on drugs/in prison for killing those who spat and shot at me during the 50s and 60 it should be me among these statistics..

I have suffered from waht is thought about me as a N.D. Buddhist eventhough I live my life by the laws of the Holy Bible and the American Constitution, I also believe in Christ...which "I" am willing to bet my life on Derek will never be able to accept /believe I speak the truth about this.Which i another learned behavior inprotecting the 'ego'. He has said that he does not care if I am a Buddhist over my saying I am a N.D. buddhist!!! while at very same time he says that the problems with us as a Black race is because we are not a positive asset to America...

...this is becaue as I have already said, BEING ON AUTOMATIC.(SMILE) and I have said all of that and using me and Derek as an example of the need for us to stop blaming religion and slavery for our problems of not using common sense...book learning is no good without common sense!!!

Clark is a genuine Christian and I am a N.D.Buddhist and he and I have more in common than many of those who preach in churches on Sunday to christians like Mozell Clark and MIISRAEL and JEN and M.B.only to name a few, because he and i do not pass judgements on each other aswe are far to busy trying to educate about respect and acceptance without those conditions of :race, creed or coor of skin to make us not be respectful for each other as fellow members of the human race.(smile)And, 'maybe' biased statistic to boot...

He and I only want truth and honesty in our educational instutions as well as our religious and political isntutions and in the social training of OUR children... WE WANT PEACE ON EARTH AND GOOD WILL TOWARDS MAN.(SMILE AND MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT TO ALL)

And, by the way Derek if you have no idea what I maen by SUBJECTIVE information, please read/reread your two comments on his blog. Because they are subjective, for wih you have changed your own arguments in e them to serve your own ego and miseducation about us . And, may "I' add this makes the point about biased statitics and not being able to stand up aganst Black think tanks or for that matter stand up in a court of law out side of those where the mass media(FOX) are judge and jury. You see courts, if run according to the American Constution ,will never even accept subjective evidence as it changes just as your proofs do T WILL. They change at will, because unlike scienific or objective evedence which can be tested and retested and never changes...and why Truth needs no defensederek and robert. And, is also the root cause of why one can not defend a lie...one must remember the lie they told ,but a lie has to keep changing in order to fit the given issue/same argment's proofs...

Derek, the Black culture or means of survival is too unique to even be able to fit into the White or non Black culture or we would still be giving up the fight to not accept any thing less than equal justice and respect in our personal pride of our unique skin color and our proud history that did not begin in slavery...or your belief that the 60s was just a way for us to express our being a violen, distructive race of peoples and not because we were fighting as we always have to betrreated as a member of the human race.

WAKE UP...but then there would not be any rhym or reason for this hard works of those in the right-wing to do or leaders like Palin whose preacher is an african witch doctor.. but you don't know this now do you ?!?..but you do know that our president does not still attend the church he had for 25 years along with Oprah...but they are still among the most rich and powerful ,dispite the way they were raised...Obama as having parents who were illegally amrried as man and a woman in almost all of the states in America and the mojority of their (Obama and Oprah's)family members abusing them ever day of the lives as children...our black president and our black $ billionaire and here you call the childhood has made these two as distuctive ( anti-christian/anti-American (Obama an illegal alien, Muslim)under the same RATIONAL as those southern KKK without hoods do right now...but, thank you the Dereks and the roberts of the world out there, fr constantly reminding us in the "BLACK" community how we must work even harder to protect our president and OUR c hildren from those like you the same way we always have had to do and for the same reasons....(smile) and BLACK POWER /WILL TO SURVIVE, LIVES....(A BIG FULL FACED BLACK GRIN TO YOU )

Derek as what "I" am about to say is on topic and something you will never see on TVabout the black community, I do not in any way expect you to be able to understand this just as you can not my comments FROM AND ABOUT THE BLACK COMMUNITY/SLAVERY...

My personal out look on C-H-A-T-T-E-L slavery in the only counrty that has ever done this(along with dropping an Atomic bomb on man in the name of God) America is a part of our history in America...I will say now as I have so many times on this site, is it is something that we were able to adjust to while never giving up the fight then or now in fighting for equal justice and respect in our pride as a race of people!!!!For me this is a good thing.Derek this is why "I can say I have come to this conclusions not because of anything that I saw on TV or the I read from sorces that only agree with me or not agree with me.

You see Derek "I" speak from my life's experiences along with what I see on TV, read in papers and learn from people like you...or have you not noticed "I" never say what others have done or have not done as you do?????when I speak to you I speek in specifics and not in general nor do change my argument points or proofs...example,YOU TOOK A QUESTION THAT i POSED AND CHANGED IT ITO AN AFFIRMATIVE AND TRIED TO PROVE THIS..BUT, THEN SOME OF US ARE LIMITED TO LEARING THIS WAY therefore we argue in the subjective and dam anyon who disagrees with it!!!!!!!!!

Your purpose is to prove me wrong and my puropse is to show how we all believe in our own truths and should try to spend more time and energy on trying to see the truths of the other person...dialoues have prevented wars attacking the mind as well as the body...and I try to avoid living my life in this fashion of self distruction byprejudice means...example,

CAUSE:chattel slavey

EFFECT: "I" was born in America

Me, I see as far as "I" am concerned as a good thing. I see me with two college degrees as a good thing and a positive for this country, as well ad my community(even though we are the ony black family there)I see my going to jail for civil disturbance as a good thing eventhough when was counted as being behind bars the whys have been left out?????

No members of my family have ever been in prison except a nephew of mine who refused to acept a drug dealer and his crew refusing to movehis busines from next door to his mother(private homes in Philly are joined together)...no this is not good thing but protecting his mother by any ways neccessary when the legal system could not do so is a good thing least to me...

Just as I pity you for only knowing about Palin what you learn on TV as this is one of the main reasons our president is in such danger and the health care reform bill i not woth the paper it is written onfor the average citizen...

as far as these Palin- TV out burst of thsoe all white rallys,,,now who said that this is not a White civil rights movement???????

WAKE UP(smile)Not all of us get our education from TV but from our own life experiences and common sense as our guides...and by the way you have not replied to my question about are you ready to go out into those hot fields fro the slave labor pay that those illegals are ...this is meant for 2010..you see I know because it was not amedia frenzy about these people in court in Ca. demanding they get paid for their work or them dying out there in those fields because th boss will not allow them a water break...(smile)

(that was off topic but it is about is our black community better off or not and derek know exactly what I am taling about-smile)

And, by the way our children both black and white and yellow and red are still unable to learn properly in public schools, because of those poisoned sprays on those cropsin my community , but this is a good sign that our courts will now be taking a more s erious part in protecting those workers out there from these poisoned crops they work in aday...OH, NOT ON MANI STREAM MEDIA.(SMILE)

CHITTEL SLAVERY IS DEAD IN aERICA BUT TRUST ME SLAVEY IS NOT IN FACT CA .IS THE BIGGEST EMPORTOR OF HUMAN s*x SLAVES INTO THIS COUNTRY, all of this can be found on your computer if you go to news papers in Ca.!!!!!!!!!!****%*IT!!!!!!!!

I realize that trying learn is not easy nor exact, nor one sided ,but when it takes on the form of personal morals then this is a form of arguing whose religion or race, or gender is he best I am not into doing this as I am about every one's own truths and their man and God given civil right and is correct in my book...and it seems that thi this not in your make up, of, or about the Black community at all...PEACE(smile)

Thank you so very, very much Mr Weston, and I chant(pray) that robert will isten to you.

I asked robert on a blog on this site(and about a theme much like this of your blog) not too long ago and after finding that like myself he so admires the works and the words of Thomas Jefferson unit I asked to one of his remarks about slavery to go check out how Jefferson did put into the American Constitution that the ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, he had put into our Constitution was to cover ALL OF MANKIND ALONG WITH THE CHATTEL SLAVES...but as this played as well in the South/with the majority in America as the works and the words of our president does today ,and like the word Public Option in Health care reform , they forced him to remove this...

Only back then the excuse fo removing it was that there would be only the Quakers to help fight a war against the Kng of England!!!!!!!!

The Quakers (and the slave Nat Turner) are the actual force behind the Civil War but they do not believe in slavery of any kind nor war so they have been not included in our history books as such, until after the Black Panther's along with the killing of Temmitt Till, Brown v Board of education did this kind of truths about BIA become a requirment being taught in the public schools in America, TODAY(smile)
I have said all of that to say this as this is what Thomas Jefferson tried to do has now been done which maybe able to have an effect to the mind set of slavery, religion as an excuse for our short comings in tryng to bring Peace and not War...and also because like so may others "I" see proper and correct and honest edcuation about how we all have the powers to do good/bad as mankind is the only way to save MANKIND and this planet....YES WE CAN...

Mr. Weston, you must start to recognize and believe that you not only represent what is all good and best for our race, but for all who come in contact with you....

You are the true leader of our soceity and it so ,so bad and pityful how we so easly we tend to reject you while we wait in vain for you to be CALLED by the main stream media to say/admit that you are a great Black community leader...because you try so very, very hard to show u s all hw and hy there is more than one side to any story and you offer other resorces as a guide for better educations so we can become more opened minded...

Thank you, thankk you thank you Mr weston for being such a great leader in our community of mankind.(smile)

You arE exactly like our president Mr. Weston, because you know that all that you do comes directly from you, not from me or anyone else ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE AN AFFECT ON YOU AS WE ARE A PART THE ENVIRONMENT OF WHICH YOU LIVE.

You learn each and ever day about how the past must be learn so the we can BETTER understand the present and be able to plan for the future...I read this some where and don't know who wrote it...

I got this beauty from Mozell, he says in the sceme of TIME we are onl y 400 year old babies still learning...WE THE ARICAN-AMERICANS.(smile)
